Data Access and Management Policy
The State Regents establish the principles governing access to and the dissemination of information gathered and maintained through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education's Unitary Data System (UDS). UDS has been in place since 1977. Each semester, approximately 75 data elements are gathered for each student (a person who enrolled, had a class/grade action and paid fees) in Oklahoma higher education.

There are 30 data-reporting entities, institutions and branch campuses in the Oklahoma State System for Higher Education. Some of the private institutions do not participate in UDS, so grand totals including private institutions are not complete. Oklahoma has 25 public higher education institutions, 20 branch campuses and five learning centers. In addition, there are 12 private higher education institutions that are regionally accredited.

The State Regents established the Task Force on the Future of Higher Education in March 2017 to consider ways to improve degree completion and increase productivity by focusing on modernization, efficiencies and innovation. The task force conducted a systematic and thorough review of the current status of higher education in Oklahoma; examined existing initiatives and best practices; and reported to the State Regents findings and recommendations on strategies that best support improving quality, access, affordability and efficiency in the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education. Following months of discussion and analysis, the task force unanimously approved its Report on the Future of Higher Education, which outlines the task force’s assessment process and recommendations to strengthen Oklahoma public higher education. The report was unanimously accepted at the State Regents’ Feb. 1, 2018, meeting.
